For the past decade Erika Verzutti has developed wall-mounted reliefs that stretch the boundaries between painting and sculpture. Guided by the tactile experience, these “wall sculptures” establish a complex relationship between two and three-dimensions, form and sensorial expression. Combining a broad range of techniques and references, the artist draws upon a variety of sources ranging from Instagram to food, gems to animals, transcending literal associations.
Recent solo shows include: Centre Pompidou (Paris, 2019), her first major institutional exhibition in Europe; Venus Yogini, Aspen Art Museum (Aspen, 2019); Cisne, Pepino, Dinossauro, Pivô (São Paulo, 2016); Swan with Stage, SculptureCenter (New York, 2015); and Mineral, Tang Teaching Museum (Saratoga Springs, NY, 2014). Other career highlights include participations in: the 57th Venice Biennale (2017); 32nd Bienal de São Paulo (2016); 34th Panorama da Arte Brasileira (São Paulo, 2015); Carnegie International (Pittsburgh, 2013); 9th Bienal do Mercosul (Porto Alegre, 2013); and 11th Biennale de Lyon (2011).
