Under the title of Minister of Alternative Transport Thorburn has been developing series of processional performances which use sculptural “vehicles” to lead the procession. Thorburn's participatory pieces investigate the potential of sustainable lifestyles, ecomobility and people powered vehicles to foster social exchange. With the absurd and extravagant, and the movement of the audience from one place to the another his performances create an atmosphere of celebration.
Thorburn has done projects at Tate Modern and Tate Britain galleries, as well as the Folkstone Triennal.
