Gao Yu is a young Chinese contemporary artist. Growing up in an average family in Guizhou Province, Gao became fascinated with ancient Chinese philosophy at an impressionable age. Worried that his mother wouldn’t understand his passion, he often read works by Laozi under his blanket at night. His love for Chinese historical literature and comics is the inspiration behind his unique artistic creations, more than often featuring the adventures of an angry Panda named GG. At Gao Yu’s Pan&dada Art Studio, he showcases his collaborative work with a number of famous brands including Nike, Absolute and Bearbrick. Through these collaborations he has been able to make Panda GG a part of everyday life. Now you have Panda GG T-shirts, cups, sofa and even wallpaper. When you ask Gao Yu if he wishes to continue drawing pandas, he replies, “as long as people are fascinated by pandas, I will be motivated to draw them.”
