b. 1963 in Padua, Italy
Lives and works in Milan and Turin, Italy
Primarily working in video, Toderi devices seemingly detached recordings that unfold in the everyday environment of cities or within precisely chosen architectural settings. In an attempt to distance herself from the pure and simple creative will, she deliberately uses video in an elementary yet tactile way to concentrate on the subject and on the action taking place. Inspired by Italo Calvino’s novel Invisible Cities, Toderi likes to think of cities as a mirroring between the sky and the earth. Conflating nighttime views of various cities like Rome, Florence or London she creates video installations that are at once structural and fantastical.
