Born in Germany and raised in Brazil, Janaina Tschäpe has lived in NY for over twenty years. Janaina Tschäpe’s paintings first emerge as a sensory experience from observation of color and acute sensitivity to light transitions. Following the pace of wide and powerful brushstrokes of casein paint, watercolor pencil elements overlay the canvases granting them melodious patterns.
Noteworthy solo shows include the Museum of Contemporary Art Tucson (Tucson, 2014); Kasama Nichido Museum of Art (Kasama, 2009); and Irish Museum of Modern Art (Dublin, 2008).
