John Nixon Biography

Born in Sydney in 1949. Nixon had his first solo exhibition at Pinacotheca, Melbourne in 1973 and he has traveled and exhibited widely ever since.

He is a painter and an installation artist. Nixon often lists Minimalism, the Monochrome, Non-Objective art, Constructivism and the readymade, as the starting points of his output. His recent exhibitions include New Zero (with Piero Manzoni), Daimler Chrysler Contemporary, Berlin, 2000; John Nixon, Kunsthaus Baselland, Muttenz 2000; John Nixon, Sue Crockford Gallery, Auckland, (with Julian Dashper ), 1999; and John Nixon, Wellington City Gallery, 1999.

Since 1995 Nixon has been working on a series of paintings based on the colour orange, titled EPW:O. and more recently Polychrome Paintings, titled EPW: He lives and works in Melbourne, and travels extensively.
