JOHN TOLE
John Tole and his brother Charles were associated with the Thornhill Group in Auckland in the 1940s, with Tole painting Cubist-inspired landscapes, sharing Braque’s interest in simplifying forms and flattening space on the picture plane.
Tole attended the Elam SFA and was tutored by John Weeks. His work is held in the Fletcher Trust Collection in Auckland, New Zealand.
