Kelly Wang Biography

Emerging intercultural and multidisciplinary female artist, Wang combines contemporary and pre-modern materials and approaches to create paintings, sculptures, installations, and works that exist somewhere between two and three dimensions. A descendent of the collector who amassed the celebrated Jade Studio collection of Chinese paintings and calligraphy, Wang has been exposed to Chinese art since early childhood. She earned an MA in Art History from Columbia University and a BA in Art History from City University of New York Hunter College. She has been studying calligraphy and traditional Chinese painting since 2010 while developing her own contemporary artistic practice. She has lectured about Chinese art (traditional and modern) and Western abstract painting at CUNY Hunter College.

Her works were collected by Princeton University Art Museum, New Jersey, USA, where she had a solo exhibition Between Heartlands at Princeton’s gallery project space in 2022. Her work was on display at Summoning Memories: Art Beyond Chinese Traditions, Asia Society Texas, USA through 2 July. Ink Alchemy at Alisan Fine Arts-Central Gallery 2023 was the gallery’s first time working with the artist. Wang’s abstract landscapes that combine contemporary with traditional Chinese material are on display in Asia for the first time in 2023. She also gave an artist talk Ink Alchemy at Alisan Fine Arts in 2023. ART SG 2024 is her debut in Singapore.
