Farrell was born in Nyeri, Kenya and arrived in New Zealand with her family as a young child, where she was raised and educated.
Farrell has always lived close to nature with a deep love of animals, especially horses and has completed a significant body of equine works including four monumental sculptures. Her work has been referenced in several texts including Waikato River: Its People, Places & History, by Ian Robinson, and The Horse in New Zealand Attiude & Heart by Carolyn Mincham.
Farrell seeks to bring a sense of lightness and delicacy to a medium usually associated with weight and substance, often focusing on the flow of “lines” in both her sculptural work and drawings. Movement, energy & dance expressions are strong features of Michelle’s figurative works, as well as harmonic connections with nature & the cosmos.
