Patrick Pound is a New Zealand artist based in Melbourne.
In 2003 he bought his way into the Cambridge edition of ‘The International Who’s Who of Intellectuals’, and in 2004 he was named ‘International Artist of the Year’. His artwork ranges from abstract collages to photos of things found flattened on the street; from mobile phone photos of tiny details taken from the real estate pages to a collection of Lost Bird posters; from collections of found photographs of photographers’ thumbs to found photographs of people in the wind, from newspaper cuttings of people with their faces covered, to the title pages of CANCELLED library books, Cubism CANCELLED, Painting as a Pastime CANCELLED, Museum Pieces CANCELLED, Great Expectations CANCELLED.
For fun he is currently completing a PhD in art history at Melbourne University under the title: ‘Photography in the face of narrative. Documentary appearances from Alvin Langdon Coburn’s and Henry James’s New York Edition (1907-9), to Walker Evans’ and James Agee’s Let Us Now Praise Famous Men (1941, 1960).’
