Sam Durant, Born 1961 in Seattle, Washington, is a multimedia artist. After completing a Bachelor of Fine Art at the Massachusetts College of Art in 1986 and a Master of Fine Art at the California Institute of the Arts, Durant established his artistic practice through works that chronicled historic events such as the civil rights movement, the genocide of indigenous Americans, and the modernism movement. Durant’s works reference social, political, and cultural issues as well as more specifically recalling American history.
