TERRY STRINGER
Terry Stringer's cast-bronze sculptures transform perceptions about the nature of three dimensional objects with the spaces in and around them often revealing silhouettes of figures and forms and the titles of his works encouraging multiple readings and propositions.
Stringer’s images encompass issues of power and gender, and co-dependence, often revealed through classical and biblical allusions. Fundamental to his visual gamesmanship is a tension between reconciling three dimensional representations on two dimensional planes in sculptural form.
Stringer graduated from the University of Auckland, New Zealand, School of Fine Arts (Elam) in 1967. He is an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit (ONZOM) for services to the arts, and his work is in the collections of the Auckland Art Gallery and Christchurch Art Gallery.
