Wolfgang Flad (b. 1974, Reutlingen, Germany) is a Berlin-based sculptor whose practice spans sculpture, relief, painting, and installation. After studying Textile Design at the Reutlingen University of Applied Sciences (1995–2000), he continued his education in Fine Arts at the State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart (2000–2004). Since 2006, he has lived and worked in Berlin, where his studio is based at Wilhelm Hallen.
Flad’s work explores the dynamic relationship between material, surface, and space through an experimental process that combines industrial materials, pigments, and handcrafted techniques. Oscillating between painting and sculpture, his layered compositions investigate transformation, growth, erosion, and the tension between order and organic complexity. Reflective surfaces and richly textured forms invite viewers into immersive spatial experiences that shift with movement and light.
His work has been presented in numerous solo and group exhibitions internationally, including the Tampa Museum of Art (Tampa, USA), Kunstmuseum Stuttgart, Kunsthaus Zürich, Centraal Museum (Utrecht), and galleries such as Galerie Elisabeth & Reinhard Hauff (Stuttgart), Bluerider ART (Taipei), Galerie Van der Grinten (Cologne), and FeldbuschWiesnerRudolph (Berlin). His works are held in several public and private collections, including those of the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart, Kunsthaus Zürich, Centraal Museum Utrecht, and Tampa Museum of Art.
