Yel K. Banto was born in Chile and moved to Switzerland as a child. They are based currently between Lausanne and Geneva, exploring the intersections between choreography, performance, writing, sound, fine arts and craft. Their approach to art is transdisciplinary and ever-changing. Drawing on improvisations, personal experiences, dreams, everyday observations, symbols, and medieval archives, Yel likes to create open-score stories. By doing so, they encourage audiences to rethink history from other perspectives and question the dominant norms that shape our daily lives.
In 2019, they held their first solo exhibition Fragmented Bodies at La Placette, Lausanne.
Selected group exhibitions include Space Invasion 3, Fabienne Levy Gallery, Lausanne (2024); Espace Dukat, Geneva (2024); Wallstreet, Fribourg (2024); Whoispola Gallery, Warsaw (2024); Grand Tour, HEAD, Geneva (2023).
