About Pinacoteca de São Paulo

The Pinacoteca de São Paulo is a visual arts museum focused on Brazilian art from the 19th century to the present day, always considering dialogues with various cultures from around the world. Founded in 1905 by the Government of the State of São Paulo, the Pinacoteca is the oldest art museum in the city. Since then, it has been holding exhibitions of its renowned collection of Brazilian art and temporary exhibitions of national and international artists. The Pinacoteca also develops and presents multidisciplinary public projects, in addition to hosting a comprehensive and inclusive educational program .

The original collection was formed from the transfer of 20 works from the Museu Paulista of the University of São Paulo, together with another 6 acquired from important artists of the city such as Almeida Júnior , Pedro Alexandrino, Antônio Parreiras and Oscar Pereira da Silva, especially to form the new collection.

Over the years, he has built up a significant collection. Currently, his collection has around 11 thousand pieces, including works by important Brazilian artists such as Anita Malfatti, Lygia Clark, Tarsila do Amaral, Almeida Júnior, Pedro Alexandrino, Candido Portinari, Oscar Pereira da Silva, among others.

Since 2006, the Pinacoteca has been managed by the Pinacoteca Arte e Cultura Association, through a Management Contract signed with the Secretariat of Culture, Economy and Creative Industry of the State of São Paulo. The guiding documents for the Management of the Pinacoteca are the Museological Plan and the Management Contract.

It currently holds around 15 exhibitions and receives approximately 800,000 visitors per year. The Museum is made up of three buildings, located in the center of São Paulo: Pina Luz (Praça da Luz, 2), Pina Estação (Largo General Osório, 66) and Pina Contemporânea (Avenida Tiradentes, 273) opened in March 2023.
