The Board of Artspace today announced that Alexie Glass-Kantor will step down as Executive Director from mid-September 2024.

Glass-Kantor was at the helm when Artspace reopened on three storeys of the Gunnery building last year following renovations that cost AU $19.2 million (U.S. $12.6 million). She also implemented a series of co-commissioned exhibitions with 17 partner institutions, among many other initiatives.

The Artspace Board’s Chairman, Peter Wilson, said, ‘the physical transformation of Artspace’s headquarters has been matched by exceptional growth and revitalisation within the organisation, due in no small part to Alexie’s tireless passion and dedication to her role over the past 10 years.’

‘Alexie has consistently delivered, whether it be risk-taking exhibitions, ambitious co-commissions, publishing and accessible archives or rent-free artist studios,’ he said.

Alexie Glass-Kantor said, ‘there is never a good time to depart an organisation that you love, but now is the moment for me to explore new opportunities, and to welcome generational change and renewed leadership for Artspace.’

She plans to continue curating exhibitions internationally. Deputy Director Michelle Newton will act as interim Executive Director while Artspace conducts an international search for Glass-Kantor’s replacement. —[O]
