Özge Ersoy Steps Up as Executive Director of Asia Art Archive
The Istanbul‑born curator takes on this new role as the Hong Kong‑based organisation marks its 25th anniversary. Save to My OculaÖzge Ersoy is the new executive director of the Asia Art Archive, marking a new chapter for the Hong Kong-based institution on the eve of its 25th anniversary.
The Istanbul-born curator will take over from Christopher K. Ho, who steered the organisation for the past four years and will return to its board of directors.
During Ho’s tenure, the archive expanded its holdings by nearly a third and set in motion a five-year plan aimed at sharpening its regional and international relevance.
His successor, Ersoy, joined in 2017 to lead public programmes and later became senior curator. Ersoy has played a key role in shaping the institution’s direction, with recent projects she has co-curated like Countering Time (2024) and In Our Own Backyard (2025) reflecting a move toward experimental archival and exhibition practices, building on the library’s 2022 reopening after major renovations with an integrated presentation format.
Speaking about this new phase, Ersoy said she is committed to ‘amplifying underrepresented voices, making archives accessible, and nurturing connections with artistic sensibility’.
Founded in 2000, AAA now holds over 140,000 records. This autumn, it will launch Archive for All: Growing with Communities, a year-long programme combining exhibitions, education, and new research publications. —[O]
