By Rory Mitchell – 12 October 2022, London

Adrian Ghenie‘s latest solo exhibition at Thaddaeus Ropac is one of many brilliant shows to discover in London alongside Frieze and 1-54.

The Fear of NOW (12 October–22 December 2022) presents new oil paintings and charcoal drawings by the Romanian artist, framed within the grand setting of London Ely House.

In his somewhat grotesque yet captivating works, Ghenie examines how technology in the digital era has impacted the body and human psyche.

Misshapen heads and bulbous, contorted bodies are doused in fleshy pinks and cool blues, and placed alongside objects such as laptops and smartphones.

Ghenie skilfully traverses the abstract and figurative in his large-scale paintings, manipulating form and colour to hint at the unsettling emotions embedded in the human experience.
