This painting by Peter Uka fetched more than twice its estimate at Christie’s Post-War and Contemporary Art Day Sale on 2 March.
The classically trained Cologne-based Nigerian artist paints realistic figures set within the memories he has of his life in the African country before moving to Germany to study at Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf.
Having recently had a debut solo exhibition with the Chicago-based gallery Mariane Ibrahim Gallery and with an upcoming solo exhibition at FLAG Art Foundation, the artist will no doubt continue to receive market attention in the years to come.
