Atmospheric and immaculate, Will Gabaldón’s latest exhibition ruminates on a variety of pastoral landscapes drawn from reality and memory.
All out beyond horizon (29 October–23 December 2022) marks the Chicago-based artist’s debut in Asia, presenting 12 new landscape paintings at Various Small Fires’ gallery in Seoul.
An Advisory favourite at Frieze Los Angeles in February this year, Gabaldón’s series of pastoral paintings depict verdant scenery of grassy fields and wind-blown trees.
For his second show with the gallery, Gabaldón experiments with larger dimensions and new colour palettes to give the impression of plein air painting.
In Two Clouds and Trees (2022), Gabaldón explores the power of modest forms by depicting a quiet composition of nature. Recalling an eerie ambience, the painting has an energetic undertone, drawn to focus by the artist’s use of thick brushstrokes.
