The spring of 2018 is approaching. In this warm season, A Thousand Plateaus Art Space will bring two solo exhibition of two emerging artists Feng Bingyi and Wang Jun. As the spring brings hope to people, their works construct a world that belongs to themselves with the great courage, they carry their faith, reason, and the groundbreaking view of the world to complete the creation for this exhibition, and this is only a small part of their long creative lead. The respective main parts of their exhibitions are also made up from their own narratives.
Feng Bingyi's exhibition choses the theme 'Fool's Gold', it is a copper mine whose weight and appearance are extremely close to the gold, has tricked many gold rushers. Its scientific name is 'pyrite'. When people see what they have been always searching for, is actually in front of them, are they willing to be tricked by it? Even just for a moment of the visual satisfaction? Feng Bingyi's work is based on humanistic concerns, but is full of unexpected 'logical collages' and 'imagery jumps', all of which are just to make those unspeakable things look better and more sincere. Here's her statement - or text paving, let's take a look:
Fool's Gold
Gold Rush Road is certainly a long road, cross over the mountains for 15 days, my backpack tape like a blade cutting causese me a lot of pain. I am not a clown, I will not fall back. I do not need you to tell me what happened.
Sink sink and sink.
I stand alone–I look at you. I see you sinking.
I stand alone–you are weighing the gold. I watch you sinking.
These boots are for walking, Marquis de Sade does not wear such boots.
Gold is at the corner, the collapse follows.
Sometimes you have to work hard to deal with it.
I know the truth, I know what you're thinking.
Fool's gold.
Suppose my works are the boots, but these boots are not for walking.
They are just the anchors in this symbolic world.
Do not suspect whether what you have seen is the real gold or the fool's gold.
Or keep suspecting.
The key words of this solo exhibition are: sink, submerge, chase, fool's gold
