Press Release

Asia Society France is pleased to present Les Couleurs des Maux, in collaboration with A2Z Art Gallery. Two artists of Vietnamese origin are honoured: Danhôo and Trần Trọng Vũ, whose colour work and choice of words, specific to each, raise the evils of the world.

Thanks to the projected colours and the created mists of this new series full of hope, Danhôo encourages us to take a look at our ecological conscience: improve our view of nature, restore its real importance in order to save our future. The artist proposes the passage to action by adapting our habits to the needs of our planet with pictorial composition that let the emotion of the nature of its Asian origins and its Western life spring forth. Danhôo, through his works, only aspires to take our hand for this journey, that he hopes will be collective—a journey to save our planet and ourselves.

Trần Trọng Vũ, tells his stories and his experiences, in cynicism and colourful humour. This political awareness, beyond aesthetics, provokes both personal and collective questions about societies. His figurative paintings oscillate between Vietnamese motifs and expressions of a pictorial and philosophical language. His ‘bad words’, often written in French, testify not only to his communist past, but also to his personal and artistic life in France. At the bottom of this universe of acidulous and luminous colours, we penetrate into his shameless paintings of a realism with unrealistic accents, revealing a poignant sensitivity.Writing, humour and colours at the service of a universal future which can be, according to Danhôo and Trần Trọng Vũ, one day without evils.
