Almine Rech London is delighted to present a Spotlight exhibition of new paintings by American artist Dylan Kraus, on view from April 7 until May 14, 2022.
Dylan Kraus is an American artist who creates small-scale paintings which utilise dark colours and deep symbolism to channel his curiosity about the universe. In Kraus' art, we encounter plenty of motifs in the form of sequences and symbols, with references that range from fables to the occult. In every work, countless layers can be peeled back one by one to reveal deeper conclusions about the universe itself. The mysterious air that his work carries can be parlayed to the same realm as certain films, as there is an eventual resolution that is realisable in his works, all done in levels of subtlety that are not overwhelming. Kraus challenges Western socio-cultural norms through a particular softness coming from the way he was raised, where vulnerability and emotions were not taboo. Although there is an eerie and mystifying tone in his paintings, one can also feel an undeniable calmness.
Dylan Kraus was born in 1987 in Ohio, US. He graduated with a BFA from Cooper Union, New York, US. Dylan Kraus lives and works between Berlin, DE and New York, US.
