Almine Rech London is delighted to present a Spotlight exhibition of new paintings by American artist Dylan Kraus, on view from April 7 until May 14, 2022.
Dylan Kraus is an American artist who creates small-scale paintings which utilise dark colours and deep symbolism to channel his curiosity about the universe. In Kraus’ art, we encounter plenty of motifs in the form of sequences and symbols, with references that range from fables to the occult. In every work, countless layers can be peeled back one by one to reveal deeper conclusions about the universe itself. The mysterious air that his work carries can be parlayed to the same realm as certain films, as there is an eventual resolution that is realisable in his works, all done in levels of subtlety that are not overwhelming. Kraus challenges Western socio-cultural norms through a particular softness coming from the way he was raised, where vulnerability and emotions were not taboo. Although there is an eerie and mystifying tone in his paintings, one can also feel an undeniable calmness.
Dylan Kraus was born in 1987 in Ohio, US. He graduated with a BFA from Cooper Union, New York, US. Dylan Kraus lives and works between Berlin, DE and New York, US.
Dylan Kraus is a student at The Cooper Union. Kraus’ most recent projects include the exhibition In Bloom, which he curated at Chinatown Soup Gallery, and Andy’s Room at 57W57 Arts (2015). Kraus will be exhibiting in a two person show with artist Rose Salane, at the Magic Gallery 1 in New York this July.

Almine Rech London will showcase curated presentations of works by artists from the 20th and 21st centuries and will be open Tuesday through Friday, from 10am to 6pm, with Monday and Saturday visits available by appointment.
