Ji-hyun Lee creates imaginary landscapes that bring together very personal spaces with public places the artist has visited. Famous touristy places are interconnected with personal spaces like inside the closet or on top of a desk, forming a unique multi-leveled space-time. Although painting is a medium which deals with the subject of space and landscape, it is nonetheless a flat representation in condensed manner without the differentiation of distance, which can only be estimated through scale of the painting.Going on further, the artist takes off from the rectangular canvas, cutting and rearranging the frame, presenting an expanded meaning of painting and experimenting with the various potentials in contemporary painting practice.
