ARARIO GALLERY SHANGHAI is pleased to announce MA Kelu’s solo exhibition Since Ada: MA Kelu 2016–2024 from 8 March 2024 to 27 April 2024. This exhibition assembles works by MA Kelu from the past eight years and will retrace the ‘Ada’ series and its extensions. Since the ‘Ada’ series, MA Kelu has moved away from studying previous painting systems and has shifted towards expressing his inner state and spiritual world. The ‘emptiness’ in the paintings, his life experience over the past 40 years and his pursuit of a transcendent realm are embedded.

Emerging from a generation of artists interested in exploring counter-cultural forms of artistic expression, Shanghai-born painter Ma Kelu is known for his abstract, figurative, and landscape works that contributed to the development of a new form of modernism in China.
