Press Release

At the turn of the twentieth century the revolt against academic, realistic painting continued and reduction of the dependence onobjective reality led to alter the notions of humanity withinintellectual and artistic circles. Synonymous with freedom, strength andtransgression, the Fauvist movement was a true revolution of colour.Their spontaneous, response to nature was expressed in bold, undisguisedbrushstrokes and high-keyed, vibrant colours directly from the tube. The bright, misplaced pigments used were breaking rules on faithfulchromatic representation that had remained in place since therenaissance. The intensity and vitality will be here represented with strong paintings by artists such as Maurice De Vlaminck and KeesVan Dongen. Bailly Gallery pays tribute to Fauvism movement which was asbrilliant as it was intense, the impact was extraordinary, laying thegroundwork for other avant-garde movements as Expressionism and Cubism.
