Jean-Baptiste Djéka Jomeaux Celeste I, c. 2019 Mixed media on canvas
49 x 40 x 3 cm
19 3/8 x 15 3/4 x 1 1/4 inches

This piece is one half of a duo of works (Jomeaux Celeste I & II) and delves into Djéka’s consciousness around the might of women, from whom all descend.

The title of this piece is a play on the French Jumeau, an intentional use of the masculine declension of ‘twin’ and depicts the duality of men and women. Akan culture is very much about the metaphysical world and this piece has a certain celestial air to it.
