Esther Schipper is pleased to announce We, Entertainment, Tao Hui’s first solo exhibition with the gallery.

Tao Hui creates immersive video-installations that bend the boundaries of fiction and reality to address cultural and identity related issues. His works are visceral and provocative yet enlightening and always imbued with a strong emotional power and a sense of displacement, inviting the viewers to confront themselves with their own cultural history, ways of living and social identities.

About the Artist

Tao Hui traversed into the art of video and installation, drawing from personal memories, visual experiences and popular culture to weave an experimental visual narration, the focus of which is often our collective experience. Running throughout his work is a sense of misplacement vis-à-vis social identity, gender status, ethnicity and cultural crisis, prompting the audience to face their own cultural histories and living conditions.

About the Gallery

Esther Schipper founded the gallery in 1989 in Cologne. In 1997 the gallery relocated to Berlin. Through more than three decades of continuous exhibition practice, the gallery has established itself as a major force not only in Germany but in an international context, with offices in Paris and Seoul and representatives in France, Spain, the United States, Latin America, South Korea, Taiwan and China. The gallery holds up to ten gallery exhibitions as well as multiple off-site projects each year and participates in leading art fairs across the globe.
