Galerie Krinzinger is opening its first solo exhibition in the expanded rooms at Schottenfeldgasse with Daniel Spoerri.
The inventor of the Tableaux-piège, the Eat-Art, the pioneer of the multiple, the exhibition maker and wordplayer, the always researching artist.
His incredible biography took Spoerri, born in 1930, across Europe and across the Atlantic to New York. In 2007 the artist finally moved to Vienna and Hadersdorf am Kamp in Lower Austria. The Kunstforum Wien is dedicating a solo exhibition to him until June 27th, which sheds light on the extensive spectrum of his work.
The exhibition Weißt du, schwarzt du? shows works from the past 30 years. Various work cycles can be seen, from assemblages from the 1990s to a series of material images that were created in 2020/2021.
In addition to the much-discussed Faux Tableau Pièges and the diary-like series one-day boxes, you will also find works that were created in dialogue with artefacts from the Natural History Museum. The sculpture from the ‘Tribulum’ series, whose body is made from the original agricultural tool of the same name, leads into a room with documentary films by Felix Breisach.
Daniel Spoerri’s devotion to words can be seen in the series ‘Boites à lettres’, assemblages based on type boxes and letters in which Daniel Spoerri sees all written and unwritten texts.—so do the works fadenscheinige Orakel, sentence creations composed of sayings as they could be read on embroidered ornamental cloths.
With the renaming from KRINZINGER PROJEKTE to KRINZINGER SCHOTTENFELD, the enlarged exhibition rooms are to be brought closer to Galerie Krinzinger in the first district. In addition to curated group exhibitions, the artist in residence program, as well as lectures, discussions and conversations, important solo exhibitions by national and internationally renowned artists will be an important new focus.
Krinzinger Projekte was founded in 2002 as an off-space and as an experimental location for national and international young positions, curated group exhibitions and an artist in residence program.
About the artist
