Heisch’s luminous fields of colour emanate an organic, kinetic intricacy. Unruly accretions of curved and delicate forms flock the picture plane, colliding and fusing where moments of energy and stillness converge. Populated with repeated motifs, gestural lines and gently unfolding forms, her compositions fold into one another across the canvas. Built through carefully layered applications of oil paint, the works possess a desirous and emotional tenor to them, recalling the patterns and structures of the natural world. Each painting is characterised by a fluid sense of movement, held in balance through opposing elements: light and dark, hard and soft, surface and depth. Exploring fullness and density, Heisch’s repeated, tangible forms anchor this momentum, inviting viewers to engage with the shifting currents of abstraction, where possibilities and meanings remain in continual flux.

About the artist

Angela Heisch (b. 1989, Auckland, NZ) lives and works in the Hudson Valley, NY (US). She received a BA Fine Arts from the University of Potsdam, SUNY, NY (US), in 2011 and an MFA from the University of Albany, SUNY, NY (US), in 2014.
