Press Release

Opening at Hauser & Wirth’s St. Moritz gallery this winter season is ‘Alberto Giacometti: Faces and Landscapesof Home’, a deeply personal exhibition devoted to the artist’s intimate portrayals of his family and the alpinesurroundings of his native Val Bregaglia and the Engadin, in the Swiss canton of Graubünden.

Curated by Tobia Bezzola, the exhibition brings together paintings, sculptures and drawings, focusing onGiacometti’s lifelong engagement with the people closest to him—his mother and father, his brothers andsister, and his wife Annette—as well as the landscapes of Stampa and Maloja, where he was born and returnedthroughout his life. These portraits and views of home reveal, like no other body of work, the unique intensityand psychological depth that define Giacometti’s approach to representation.

The exhibition is enriched by a selection of photographs by Ernst Scheidegger, Giacometti’s close friend andcollaborator for his first ever publication, who first met the artist in Maloja in 1943 and documented his life andwork over several decades.
