Press Release
Martin Browne Contemporary is delighted to present Inside Voices and Other Social Norms, the first solo exhibition with the gallery by exciting young painter, Stephanie Wilson.

In this exhibition architectural interiors such as waiting rooms, office cubicles, foyers and corridors are constructed from sharp geometric lines and tonal blocks of colour.

Wilson’s unconventional colour combinations, exaggerated tone, inaccurate perspective and awkward compositions create an uncanny tension. This is heightened by deliberate inconsistencies such as paper-thin walls, vague sources of light and mysterious shadows. Each environment is clinical, clean and devoid of any inhabitants, however hints of recent human activity such as well-watered plants and glowing lights give an eerie presence to each composition.

Wilson completed a Master in Fine Art at RMIT, Melbourne in 2010 and has just recently been awarded an ArtStart Grant from the Australia Council for the Arts
