Press Release

Who gets to bask in the light of the global afterlife? Are we permitted to be together?

Contact is easy and supposedly immediate. Yet ‘it remains possible to experience loneliness despite spending hours emotionally engaged online, particularly when those interactions are not reciprocated. What goes “viral” is often manufactured in a lab, designed for appeal and circulation. Users of social media are far more likely to scroll than to post’. (Danah Boyd)

It is possible to almost know everything and remain in touch with everyone? In our global world of nation states, it’s difficult to say what-we-want or what-we-mean. The exhibition Pheno 03: Outside Broadcast: My voice keeps changing on me and its performances, events, and artworks are led by an object that cannot really talk. It began in a café in L’Île-Saint-Denis, on the outskirts of Paris, then gathered considerable momentum over a month at Bivy in Anchorage, and now arrives in Sydney to be hooked up live with phone booths in distant cities and numerous events in Melbourne. Outside Broadcast goes on the hunt, out in the field, for live fragments, bringing them back to the studio at Roslyn Oxley9 Gallery for the audience to work on. What accrues, accumulates, agglomerates and aggregates is made of what-we-don’t-know (together).
