Please join us for the opening reception on Saturday, January 13th from 6PM-8PM at Simchowitz DTLA (727 East Washington Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90021 with parking located at 720 E. 18th St.).
Graessle, a Swiss-born artist, brings forth a collection that echoes her eclectic influences, creativity, and a deep connection to the natural world. Celebrating a kaleidoscope of inspiration, Graessle unveils a burst of colour and freedom in her latest exhibition.
In her own words, Graessle encapsulates her artistic philosophy: ‘I paint all that surrounds me, what I see. My work is intuitive and inspired by all that piques my interest. Animals, nature, fashion, films, books, news, feelings, music, childhood memories—everything becomes form, entering into my drawings and paintings without restrictions.’
Graessle’s artistic evolution began in her childhood, where an innate fascination with painting and drawing propelled her into the realm of art. After attending Zurich Art School and completing a degree in graphic design, she exhibited her first works while still a student, showcasing black and white charcoal drawings that spontaneously captured her personal imagery.
The artist’s journey led her to France and eventually to Andalusia, where she found solace and inspiration amid the tranquility of old cottages surrounded by nature. It’s within this secluded setting that Graessle immerses herself in large-format, colourful, and instinctive paintings that depict a world within her vivid imagination.
‘My paintings are colourful, figurative, kitsch, and large, sometimes with text, mostly 180 x 260 cm, done with acrylic, spray, and sometimes glitter,’ Graessle shares. ’ love large paintings, to be surrounded by my imagery, to completely immerse myself in my world of images.’
Her studio, nestled in the heart of this serene environment, acts as a sanctuary where she works on multiple canvases simultaneously, seamlessly switching between drawings and paintings, a process that liberates her creativity and often births new themes and ideas.
Graessle has exhibited at art fairs as well as in numerous solo and group exhibitions globally. Now, her upcoming exhibition promises an immersive experience, offering a glimpse into the essence of her artistic process.
