Press Release

STATION is delighted to present Unsettled Subjects, a group exhibition in celebration of the 100-year anniversary of Surrealism.

Unsettled Subjects features the works of STATION represented artists Kate Bohunnis, Séraphine Pick and Michelle Ussher and guest artists Pat Brassington, Judy Chicago and Sana Shahmuradova Tanska.

Echoing through the lens of Surrealism, this exhibition considers the ways contemporary artists use the body as a site to embrace the aesthetics of ‘the irrational’ to amplify subjective experiences of the world.

Each artist presents the body as a medium for personal expression, their evocative subjects challenging our perceptions of familiarity, experience and embodiment. Through drawing, painting and sculpture, they create atmospheric works that blur the boundaries between reality and fantasy, reflecting the tension between our internal and external worlds.

The exhibition unfolds as a visual dialogue that traverses the uncanny, the magical, and the abject. Themes of vulnerability and metamorphosis are central, as these artist balance rational perspectives with the power of subjectivity, demonstrating how the body absorbs and mutates with the forces which shape our inner and outer realities.
