Press Release

Waddington Custot presents the second part of the first London retrospective of Photorealist paintings in 50 years. It is only the third major UK survey of the movement, after Photo-Realism: Paintings, sculpture and prints from the Ludwig collection and others at The Serpentine in 1973 and Photorealism: 50 Years of Hyperrealistic Painting at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery in 2013.

Selected from the largest and most important collection of Photorealist art in the world, these paintings represent the pinnacle of the movement by its main protagonists: John Baeder; Robert Bechtle; Charles Bell; Tom Blackwell; Robert Cottingham; Don Eddy; Richard Estes; Ralph Goings; Ron Kleemann; Richard McLean; John Salt; and Ben Schonzeit.

The scale of this collection is such that the exhibition is split into two parts, with Picture This: Photorealism 1966–1985 pt.1 running from 21 April to 24 May 2023.
