Press Release

Coinciding with the opening of Frieze New York, White Cube presents AERIAL, an exhibition of new work by Antony Gormley which brings together two recent developments in the artist's practice. '

Aerial', the work that gives its title to the show as a whole, is an orthogonal branching matrix that measures and catalyses the distinct architecture of the ground floor gallery.

Upstairs are three over life-size, solid cast iron 'Double Blockworks' that explore physical closeness in a radically reduced geometric language while paradoxically inviting strong, emotional responses in the viewer.

About the Artist

Antony Gormley is widely acclaimed for his sculptures, installations and public artworks that investigate the relationship of the human body to space. His work has developed the potential opened up by sculpture since the 1960s through a critical engagement with both his own body and those of others in a way that confronts fundamental questions of where human beings stand in relation to nature and the cosmos. Gormley continually tries to identify the space of art as a place of becoming in which new behaviours, thoughts and feelings can arise.

About the Gallery

An international art powerhouse, White Cube was established in 1993 in London by art dealer Jay Jopling. In its space on Duke Street, it served as the early exhibition venue for many now internationally acclaimed British artists, including Tracey Emin, Gilbert & George, Rachel Kneebone and Antony Gormley, who still show with the gallery today.
