David Ray was born in 1972 in Ararat, Victoria, Australia. In 1993 he completed a BFA (Bachelor of fine arts) in Ceramics with a high distinction from RMIT (Royal Melbourne institute of technology). In 1995 he completed his honors degree of fine arts also in ceramics with a high distinction at RMIT. Since graduating Ray has exhibited throughout Australia, been the recipient of four major Australia awards and has work in a number of major Australian collections. He also completed a number of residencies and received a number of research/developmental grants.
