Born in Hokkaido in 1985, Ayane Eguchi completed her master’s degree in oil painting at Kanazawa College of Art in 2011. Her unique painting world focuses on the coexistence of the adorable and the eerie, as well as life and death—elements that are linguistically contradictory. Her works often depict cute creatures resembling teddy bears and surreal landscapes that seem like fantasy worlds. However, upon closer inspection, there are hints of eeriness and violence in the details reminiscent of flesh, bacteria, and internal organs, reminding us that her world mirrors the contradictions of the world we live in.
