Born in the Midwestern United States in 1967, Jan Larsen was raised in Pennsylvania and Boston, received an undergraduate degree with honors from Harvard College in 1989, a master’s degree in business management from Oxford University in 1991, and studied art as process at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
Read MoreA son of art collectors, curators, and educators, Jan was raised amongst fine art and the artistic process. He came to New York in 1997 to pursue his art, and has held painting and production studios there ever since, as well as four eponymous galleries, in Brooklyn, SoHo, and TriBeCa.
After completing graduate school, Jan joined the work world in environmental consulting, film and theatre casting, and was hired by Hard Rock CafeĢ founder Isaac Tigrett to help him raise funding for the first phase of the roll out of his new venture called The House of Blues, which subsequently opened venues in Chicago, New Orleans, and Los Angeles.
Jan then shifted into corporate development, producing internal communications for large clients like Harvard University, and as a strategic management consultant, helped the Bermuda Telephone Company transition from being an island utility to a competitive access provider.
In 1996, Jan moved to Providence to learn qualitative research, conducting focus groups and consumer interviewing for corporate clients, and finally made the move to New York to begin his artistic journey.
Working in communications, public service, and finally investment banking, after the attacks on the World Trade Center in 2001, Jan shifted his focus to fine art and to building his new production company, Jan Larsen Art, helping clients with collections and representing new artists alongside himself, producing many, many fine art shows in the process.
Fifteen years of work later, having represented scores of emerging artists, advised and represented clients on the secondary market and with accounts at the major auction houses, having helped clients acquire and incorporate world-class work into their collections, having auctioned work for charity and loaned it internationally in partnership with the US State Department, Jan is delighted to turn his focus at last to production of his own work.
