Born in 1980 in New York City, Jason Bereswill received a BFA from the Ringling College of Art and Design in 2002 and an MFA from the New York Academy of Art in 2005. He is currently based in Lambertville, NJ, where he co-founded the MarthaMOCA artist residency. Bereswill brings his deep interest in nature, sports, travel, and art history to life in his vibrant landscape paintings, often inspired by specific places he visited in person. His broad panoramas capture the colors, light, and energy of these locations in their entirety, fully immersing the viewer in their sublime power. Nondescript figures also make frequent appearances, helping to develop a narrative within each meticulously rendered scene. They range anywhere from the blissfully tranquil to the exhilaratingly dynamic to the absurdly macabre—for example, the artist’s signature ocean paintings may show distant silhouettes peacefully floating in the glistening sunlight, a competitive surfer maneuvering through a shore break, or a photographer falling off a cliff into the water below. Bereswill’s effortless brushstrokes render his subjects with an obsessive intensity, mirroring humanity’s infatuation with the beauty, serenity, and thrill of nature.
The artist’s solo exhibitions include The Daks, Keene Arts (Keene, NY, 2025); Falling for St Barth, Space Gallery St Barth (Saint Barthélemy, 2025); L’Appel du Vide, MAKI Gallery (Tokyo, 2023); and Rocks, Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art (Bermuda, 2019). He has also participated in group shows at Nino Mier Gallery (New York, 2023); The FLAG Art Foundation (New York, 2017); Marlborough Chelsea (New York, 2016); and Museo Jumex (Mexico City, 2012), among others. Bereswill’s work is part of many respected public and private collections, such as the Hall Foundation, Brant Foundation, Museo Jumex, Bermuda National Gallery, and Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art.
