Kim Dong Yoo Biography

A highly regarded painter within Asia for the past three decades, Kim Dong Yoo is master of photo-realism whose works push the boundaries of Pop Art conceptualism and technical ability. Composed of thousands of ‘pixels’, Kim’s iconic figures are themselves made up to tiny portraits, each one apprehensible only at close range. His paintings evoke the cunning methodologies of Op Art, with each grid adding tonal variations to the overall image, yet create compelling and provocative pairings. A portrait of John F. Kennedy is constructed out of images of Marilyn Monroe, while Ingrid Bergman is composed of hundreds of likenesses of Humphrey Bogart.
