Konoike Tomoko Biography

Known for her crystaline sculptures, Konoike Tomoko references pop culture and religious motifs. Manga and Noh characters exist alongside Shinto animism. Working across sculpture, painting, video and installation, Tomoko's works also draw upon surrealist notions of the conscience and human psychology. Her works often straddle the line between innocent play and a darker reality hidden behind. Indigenous mythology is blended with her rich visual imagination to produce a world that is not easily described with words. Tomoko herself describes her practice as an attempt to escape words.
