A major retrospective of Maynard’s work, Portrait of a Distant Land was presented by the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney in 2009 and travelled to nine locations including the Australian Embassy Paris, Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery and the State Library of Victoria, Melbourne. Other exhibitions include Open Air: Portraits in the Landscape, National Portrait Gallery, Canberra (2008), Half Light: Portraits from Black Australia, Art Gallery of New South Wales (2008), More than my skin, Campbelltown Arts Centre, NSW (2008), Culture Warriors, National Indigenous Art Triennial 07, National Gallery of Australia (2007).

Maynard’s work is in the collections of Art Gallery of New South Wales, Australian National Maritime Museum, Sydney, National Gallery of Victoria, National Gallery Of Australia, Canberra; Queensland Art Gallery, Brisbane; Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery.
