Su Yuming Biography

Su Yuming, born in 1994, is currently a doctoral student at the Graduate School of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, specialising in the Research of Contemporary Painting. He is entering his tenth year of study at the Printmaking Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, and in recent years he has attempted to make the leap from paper to canvas, and from edition to sole in his creations. His images come from daily life, ranging from selfies and other shots taken by family and friends, to interceptions and collages of internet images. Techniques of colour separation, superimposition, and transcription in printmaking are used in his paintings. The density of the interweaving of acrylics and oils, blocks of color and lines is what fascinates him. Layers of paint are interspersed to create fascinating bumps and depressions. The rustle of the brush tip can be felt as it travels across the canvas as one follows the brush strokes. He was awarded the Hahnemühle Prize for Youth Printmaking, Germany, The 4th Xuyuan Printmaking New Talent Award (The 1st Prize) and The Xuyuan Outstanding Young Teacher and Fresh Graduate Printmaking Award (The 1st Prize).
