Swetlana Gerner
Swetlana Gerner, born in Kyiv, Ukraine, is a Jewish artist whose work reflects her personal journey and cultural heritage. Currently based in Vienna, Austria, Gerner fled Ukraine after the collapse of the Soviet Union and relocated to Frankfurt am Main, Germany, where she earned a Diploma in Communication Design from Hochschule Darmstadt. Her paintings explore ideological complexities and societal questions surrounding the pursuit of heroes and saviors. Gerner’s artworks are characterized for their vibrant and rich color palette, incorporating figurative elements and layered historical references. Her intuitive approach to painting captures a raw, unfiltered essence that prompts reflection on collective belief systems. She is currently pursuing a degree in Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna under Daniel Richter.
