Born in Munich, Thomas Weinberger is interested in the aesthetic notion of beauty. His photographs, often depicting urban landscapes, recall the documentary precision and serial presentation of photography's history. Yet Weinberger notes that this relation is less obvious, noting that the Bechers did nothing other than to record sunsets. Rather that placing any emphasis on the documentary or social responsibility of photography, the artist asks after the visual phenomena which shape viewers perceptions of reality. Instead of rationality, his photographs offer a Romantic interpretation of cityscapes and horizons.
