Valeska Soares’ works hold a deep sense of timing, memory and affection. The artist uses found objects as building materials - often collected in flea markets and thrift stores. The history of previous usages is regarded, while new layers of meanings contrast and juxtapose.
Recent solo exhibitions include: Estação Pinacoteca (São Paulo, 2018), Phoenix Art Museum (Phoenix, 2018), and Santa Barbara Museum of Art (Santa Barbara, 2017). Site-specific installations were developed for locations such as inSite, San Diego-Tijuana (2000); Museo Tamayo, Mexico City (2003); and Inhotim, Brumadinho, Brazil (2008). Her work has participated in numerous group exhibitions, including the Bienal de São Paulo (1994, 1998, and 2009); the Venice Biennale (2005); and Sharjah Biennial, in the United Arab Emirates (2009).
