Violeta Quispe is a Peruvian artist and activist rooted in the Quechua traditions of Sarhua, Ayacucho. She reinterprets the historic “Tablas de Sarhua” with a contemporary, feminist perspective, focusing on Indigenous women’s narratives, gender struggles, and ancestral mythologies.
Her paintings blend vibrant colors, symbolic figures, and Quechua inscriptions to confront themes of colonialism, patriarchy, and LGBTQIA+ rights. By weaving personal and collective memory, Quispe transforms oral histories and traditions into urgent contemporary discourse. Her work has gained international recognition through institutional exhibitions such as the Venice Biennale (2024), MASP in São Paulo, and museum shows across Lima, Paris, and Cusco, positioning her as one of the most relevant voices in contemporary Andean art.
