Wang Qingsong was born in 1966 in Heilongjiang Province, China. He is a photographer who explores the impact of Western nations and issues of modernisation on Asian society, resulting in a practice that blurs the distinctions between photojournalism, documentary, and photography. He attended the Sichuan Academy of Art where he studied Oil Painting. He has been included in group exhibitions since 1996. He held his first solo exhibition in 2000 at the Wan Fung Gallery in Beijing. Since then, he has held numerous solo exhibitions in Paris, Milan, Brazil, Los Angeles, Lucca, Denmark, New York, Hong Kong, and Austria, demonstrating the global relevance and appeal of his photographs.
In 2019, he had his solo shows at Wuhan United Art Museum and the Museum of Photography Seoul, Korea. In 2006, he was honoured the Outreach Award in Rencontres de la Photographie, Arles, France. He organised and curated Changjiang International Photography and Video Biennale and Chengdu Golden Panda Photography Award exhibition.
